Job Description

Job Description

  • We’re looking for two skilled and community-connected Community Health Promotion Officers to join ACON’s Trans Health Equity team. These roles will design, deliver, evaluate and improve health promotion, community development and peer education initiatives that respond to the needs of trans and gender diverse communities.
  • This is an opportunity to combine program delivery, community engagement, partnership development and practical health promotion. You will work directly with community members, clients, volunteers, partner organisations, health services and other stakeholders to strengthen health literacy, encourage positive health behaviours and support access to affirming services.
  • One full-time role, 70 hours per fortnight.
  • One part-time role, 56 hours per fortnight.
  • Both roles are based at ACON’s Gadigal (Surry Hills) office, with flexible working options available.

What’s Trans Health Equity you say?

You'll be a part of the Trans Health Equity team, which leads ACON’s health promotion, community development and peer education work with trans and gender diverse communities.

This includes initiatives such as TransHub, Australia’s leading digital information and resource platform for trans and gender diverse people, clinicians and allies; TranSport, which works with sporting organisations to build trans-inclusive sessions; and Trans Vitality, a peer-led resilience and wellbeing program for trans and gender diverse communities. The team also delivers community outreach, workforce development, capacity-building activities and partnerships that improve access to affirming healthcare and promote health equity across NSW and nationally.

Ok, so what’s the role?

Community Health Promotion Officer – Trans Health Equity is essentially a client and community-facing role that turns evidence, community knowledge and funded priorities into practical programs and activities. You will:

  • Design, plan, deliver, evaluate and report on health promotion, community development and peer education activities, resources, outreach and campaigns.
  • Engage directly with community members and clients, provide information and brief support, and facilitate referrals to ACON and other services.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organisations, health services, Local Health Districts, venues and government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Develop and improve program procedures, resources and evaluation methods, while maintaining accurate records, statistics and reports.
  • Provide informed advice about trans and gender diverse communities, represent ACON at forums and stakeholder meetings, and deliver presentations and workshops

Who are we looking for?

  • Someone with a strong foundation in health promotion, community development or peer education who can balance evidence-informed practice with creativity, innovation and responsiveness to emerging community needs.
  • Someone who is committed to culturally safe, inclusive and community-led practice, and who is always looking for ways to better centre the strengths, experiences and self-determination of the communities they work alongside.
  • Someone who builds genuine relationships, communicates with authenticity and respect, and enjoys working collaboratively with community members, volunteers, partners and stakeholders to create meaningful change.
  • Someone who is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of trans and gender diverse communities, while recognising that sustainable community work requires healthy boundaries, self-care and long-term planning.
  • Someone who is comfortable working independently, taking initiative and finding practical solutions, while also contributing to a supportive and collaborative team culture.
