Job Description

Job Description

  • The National Multicultural Peer Navigation Project has established core program foundations and is entering a phase of implementation, refinement, and national scale. This requires senior leadership to ensure the model is applied consistently, safely, and effectively across settings.
  • The program addresses persistent barriers to HIV prevention and care experienced by overseas-born gay, bi+ and other men who have sex with men, including system navigation challenges, stigma, and access inequities. Strong leadership is required to maintain cultural relevance and service quality.
  • This is a senior specialist role with responsibility for program delivery, peer workforce leadership, and model integrity. The role requires sound judgement, the ability to manage risk and complexity, and the capacity to translate evidence and community insight into effective practice.
  • Full-time [70] hours per fortnight) based in our Gadigal (Surry Hills) office.

What’s Multicultural Peer Navigation you say?

The National Multicultural Peer Navigation Project sits within ACON’s Gay, Bi+ Men’s Sexual Health Programs, which lead community-informed HIV prevention, testing, and care initiatives for priority populations across New South Wales. While ACON is an NSW-based organisation, this project operates nationally, requiring leadership across jurisdictions and alignment with diverse service systems and partners.
The unit takes a community-led approach, working in partnership with sector organisations, health services, and government funders to improve access and outcomes.
The project supports overseas-born gay, bi+ and other men who have sex with men to navigate Australia’s health system, build community connections, and access culturally safe sexual health services. It is delivered through a structured peer-led model that centres lived experience, trust, and community engagement.
With core program foundations established, the project is now focused on delivering consistent, high-quality service nationally and strengthening its impact through ongoing refinement, partnership, and scale.

Ok, so what’s the role?

The Lead is responsible for leading the delivery, quality, and ongoing development of the National Multicultural Peer Navigation Project. This includes:

  • Leading the implementation and continuous improvement of the peer navigation model, ensuring it is delivered consistently, safely, and effectively across jurisdictions.
  • Supervising and developing the peer workforce, providing structured support, guidance, and performance management to ensure high-quality, culturally responsive service delivery.
  • Maintaining and enforcing model integrity, including adherence to practice standards, boundaries, and escalation pathways.
  • Building and managing relationships with sector partners, health services, and government stakeholders to support program delivery, coordination, and impact.
  • Monitoring program performance, including data collection, reporting, and evaluation, and using insights to inform decision-making and ongoing refinement of the model.
  • Exercising sound judgement in program delivery, including decisions related to model refinement, risk management, and stakeholder engagement

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a highly capable professional who can lead a complex, community-led program operating across jurisdictions. You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience leading programs or initiatives, with accountability for delivery, workforce leadership, and outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities, particularly overseas-born populations, and to apply culturally responsive approaches in complex environments.
  • Experience supervising peer or community-based workforces, including managing performance, maintaining clear practice boundaries, and responding to risk.
  • Strong partnership skills, with experience working across sector organisations, health services, and government stakeholders.
  • The ability to translate evidence, data, and community insight into practical improvements in service delivery and program design.

This program is grounded in a peer-led model. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience as gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men who have migrated to Australia, reflecting the communities this program serves.
